touching the void

The opening paragraph builds tention by making you think of what it would be like there, he does this by quotes ( 'i lolled on the rope, scarcely able to hold my head up') and ( ' endless hanging. no need for this tourcher ')

 

He is making us know how terrified and scared he as hes hanging of a  cliff edge. I know this because he asks questions like "how long will you be simon ? " "how loong before you join me ?" he made us know he was desperate for it to end by saying "I wanted with all my heart for this to finish’.

 

In the end paragraph, the writer lets us know he was hurt and got hit in the face by saying "The rope lashed violently against my face and I fell silently ,endlessly into nothingness as dreaming of falling’ this also creates more tention because he varies his sentence lenghts.
